Summer Camps

Bridging the Gap

Together with our BCN chapter leaders and mentors, we gain valuable ground with hundreds of boys during the regular school year.  With some of our boys however – the 10% to 15% most at-risk of disconnection or social isolation – we  could possibly lose much of that ground during the summer months.  In a tragic few cases, we have lost boys entirely.  The implementation of our summer camps program changed all of that.  Enrollment is by application, and also on referral of administrators, teachers, counsellors and peers. Students pay no fees to attend or participate.

We operate regional summer camps in four BC school districts -North/West Vancouver, Maple Ridge, and Abbotsford..  Camps generally run Monday through Friday from 8:30am until 3:30pm, and include two meals, camp t-shirts, several field trips, special events, transportation, and several mentor-led meetings and events.

Regional camps are designed to accommodate the availability and interests of boys in attendance, and range in duration from four to eight weeks. Cost is never a barrier to participation, and registration is offered free of charge to all families. For a select few boys, attendance at summer camp can represent the difference between continued success and failure to thrive, as camp offers continuation of critical connections made during the school year.

Our program of continued mentorship coupled with enriching educational,  physical, therapeutic, lifeskill and social activities, lifts the boys up and carries them successfully through summer and into the new school year.  The curriculum is based on empirical data and experiences gained over the past 25 years running BCN chapters from September through June.

Community Outreach

Helping those less fortunate builds perspective and gratitude.

Community and neighborhood outreach is a foundation of the BCN curriculum.  Every meeting and every outing involves some level of active or passive give-back and reflection.

Not surprisingly, outreach initiatives and events like making sandwiches for homeless people, serving burgers at a veterans barbeque, mucking stalls at a not-for-profit petting zoo, or simply holding each other up – are often among the boys’ favourite BCN memories.

If your organization depends on volunteer contributions of time, and you are interested in discussing BCN Outreach, please contact us by email.
